En 2008, il commence deuxième au Royal Rumble 2008 et se fait éliminer par Mr.Kennedy. Il participe au Elimination Chamber de Raw à No Way Out 2008. Il se fait éliminer par Triple H.
Après avoir échoué à No Way Out, Shawn Michaels est choisit par Ric Flair comme son adversaire à WrestleMania XXIV (Michaels avait accepté le challenge de Flair) dans un Career Threatening match. Il met fin à la carrière de Flair à WrestleMania XXIV. Le 4 avril, Michaels évoque ses sentiments mais est interrompu par Batista qui dit que Michaels est égoïste et dit qu'il aurait du laisser gagner son mentor Ric Flair.
Lors du Friday Night Smackdown! du 25 avril 2008, Shawn Michaels intervient dans un No Disqualification Match entre The Undertaker et Batista pour le World Heavyweight Championship détenu par le Deadman en attribuant un Sweet Chin Music à Batista. The Undertaker portera par la suite son Tombstone PileDriver avant de faire le tombé sur Batista.
À Backlash 2008, Shawn Michaels affrontait Batista dans un match simple. L'arbitre de ce match était Chris Jericho. Michaels gagna après avoir utilisé son Sweet Chin Music sur Batista. Il fut blessé à la jambe gauche à la suite de ce match(il faisait semblant), ce que Chris Jericho interpréta comme une simulation de la part de Michaels. Il lui offrit, au Monday Night RAW suivant, l'oscar du meilleur acteur pour sa fausse blessure. A Judgment Day 2008, Michaels affronta Chris Jericho et le battit après un Roll Up. Après le match Shawn Michaels et Chris Jericho se serrent la main. A One Night Stand 2008, il perd dans un Stretcher match face à Batista.
